Butterfly Migration

In addition to birds, photography of insects has greatly enhanced my NEDs (nature exploration days)!! Was pleased to find 6 examples of my favorite beetle yesterday!
I had a great time at Granger Lake yesterday, sitting solo by the swim area watching migration go by!! No gulls at the swim area, but good numbers flying by and at 2 poorly accessible roosts.
Ok, it’s insect time. Here’s one of my top 3 insects — White-lined Sphinx. Found2 of these beauties at Lake Balmorhea. Interestingly, my camera on pretty high speed seemed to be exactly coordinated with the wingbeats. I always feel that these guys are mimicking hummingbirds to avoid predation.
Hearing migrants on my walk this morning: Yellow, Nashville & Orange crown warblers, Clay-colored Sparrow, Dickcissels, Broad wing Hawk, Great crested fly… Also a new yard bird in Hyde park yesterday: PABU!! I’m getting antsy to get to High Island !!!
Sandhills about to hit a norther today: fallout!!!
September 28 looks good.
