Butterfly Migration


Migration over next few days looks good!! Fingers crossed for the Corpus trip!!
Birdcast. I should say that just because conditions are good for migration, doesn’t mean we see them on the ground. But it’s a good time to look.
You gotta love a woman who responds with a huge enthusiastic grin, gets her shoes on, and follows you outside when you say “We have dung beetles!!!!”!! We were delighted to see 3 of these little dudes rolling their business at our place near Fort Davis!!!
Sandhills about to hit a norther today: fallout!!!
Just back from several days in Terlingua, Fort Davis, Big Bend area. Saw about 60 bird species, but overall low in numbers. Best bird probably Townsend Solitaire. Here’s some cool non bird animals we saw — the “B” trifecta — Black Witch, Badger & Bear. That black blob is the bear. We pointed it out…
Since I’m going to attempt to teach a few gulls next class here’s a reminder: it’s about time to be on the lookout (and listen-out) for franklin’s gulls. They migrate from prairie nesting sites To west coast of South America. Right over cen Tex. Also listen for another iconic sound of fall migration—Sandhill cranes!!
