Rufous Hummingbird
We have at least 3 rufous hummers at our Fort Davis place. The notch in R2 (2nd tail feather (retrices) from the middle) in one of the pix is diagnostic.
Full adult male just showed up!! (more pix to come)

Here’s a question: does anyone know the answer without checking field guide? (I only know cause I learned it just now. I saw it): What color is a juvenile cardinal’s bill this time of year?
Love these colorful, chunky grasshoppers in Davis Mountains this time of year. They’re called Plains Lubber Grasshoppers. Also a couple of young birds for someone to ID.
A few sparrows from recent trip to Fort Davis area. 16 Sparrow species for the trip. No luck on the Baird’s despite many hours of walking the roads. The quest continues!!! I find the Lark Bunting to be so photogenic!! My favorite sparrow.
Had clay colored sparrow and black chin hummer for first time this spring at the dacha. Fos white eyed vireo this week. Still have 4 species of winter sparrows, su skins and spot towhee.
Other than not finding Baird’s (yet) I am finding good sparrows. Here’s a few pix from Marfa vicinity for ya’ll to ID. I’ve had 13 species so far.
