Here’s a few more pix from Kelp chase. Anyone is welcome to ID.
Since I’m going to attempt to teach a few gulls next class here’s a reminder: it’s about time to be on the lookout (and listen-out) for franklin’s gulls. They migrate from prairie nesting sites To west coast of South America. Right over cen Tex. Also listen for another iconic sound of fall migration—Sandhill cranes!!
Other stuff seen on south Texas trip.
Last Glaucous pix for a bit!! I usually think of the Herring as a BIG GULL!! But I was impressed with the Glaucous next to the Herrings and Laughings!!
Spent some time under a tree next to Lake Sommerville yesterday. Had 500-600 White pelicans, a smattering of gulls (Franklin’s & Ring billed) and 5 species of shorebirds For the 2024 Shorebird class: Can you ID the shorebirds and tell me why? (Feel free to review Eric’s fine table)
Looks like a glaucous winged is in Amarillo (from NA gulls fb page).
