Platte Lane
Walked Platte Lane area of Hornsby this morning. Pretty slow, but we were jawing.
Did get Least and Yellow-bellied flycatchers, which was a pleasure to ID confidently!! Didn’t try for pix.
Anybody else out birding?

15 Shorebirds at Hornsby
15 species of shorebird yesterday at Hornsby. But this Chestnut-collared longspur was a treat. Seems to be a young male with a hint of black on belly and a hint of chestnut on collar. Good looks at Baird’s Sandpiper, American Golden Plover and both yellowlegs were also a pleasure!

Hornsby with Eric
When our VECAL FT bidders canceled this morning, Eric and I walked around Hornsby on our own. Nice to see some ducks on the ponds, lots of butter butts, blue head vireo, and other regulars. Migration & Hornsby Big 4
Migration !!! Had a few hundred of these guys near La Grange yesterday. Then I stopped by Hornsby about noon and it was almost devoid of shorebird habitat. Water is up and meets the grass, so no “shore”. I did manage to find 3 of the the “big 4”: Least, Killdeer & Spotted.
