Oddly, I’ve run across 3 different birds this year that appear to be runts of the litter. Ring-billed Gull, Long-billed Dowitcher and White Pelican.
And finally, here’s another cool gull from Corpus. It took me 7 tries over the past 3 years to finally get this gull. He’s been returning to a bait shop there for at least that long. Also compared to Herring in 1 pix.
Today I saw my 39th of the 40 shorebird species likely to be seen in Texas for my 2023 scoreboard. Found a WIlson’s snipe at the Pecos River. (Didn’t get a pix today, this was from elsewhere). Saw 32 species in Central Texas (mostly Hornsby and Cedar Point), 1 more in west texas, only needed…
Gull #5 (same date location). Species? Age? Gull #5 First cycle Ring-billed with pretty advanced feathers on the back – lot of adult gray coming in. Also note shape is perfect for ring bill.
