White Rock Lake today. Lots-o-gulls!! And rants.
Gull #5 (same date location). Species? Age? Gull #5 First cycle Ring-billed with pretty advanced feathers on the back – lot of adult gray coming in. Also note shape is perfect for ring bill.
I couldn’t sit still with so many rare birds present in Texas — especially when one was a first state record Gull !!!! So I opted for Amarillo (rather than RGV at the moment). I put in 8 hours of stakeout time for the Yellow-footed Gull in Amarillo yesterday and today and it paid off…
Few friends from the Trans-Pecos recently.
They say you have to be crazy to get into gulls……………I didn’t last long, so still mostly sane!
Had a great trip with the 2024 Gulls Class to Galveston etc. Highlight was the California Gull initially found by Sarah “blue legs” Womack!! Palm Warbler found by Doug was also a great bird!! We had 6 gull species and numerous shorebirds.
