Once again just as i dreamed!! Was able to get this Baird’s sparrow with perfect background in Davis mountains today!! (Note: early April Fools dad joke!)
Came across this titmouse with an oddly curved tail in the Davis Mountains. Hope they grow in straight next time, buddy!!
I spent the last week in Davis Mountains. Here’s a few locals. Having heard of 88 mountain plovers near San Angelo, I detoured that direction on the way home and found about a dozen on a cold and rainy morning. Nice turf farm there on Susan Peak road. See map below if you want to…
We have at least 3 rufous hummers at our Fort Davis place. The notch in R2 (2nd tail feather (retrices) from the middle) in one of the pix is diagnostic. Full adult male just showed up!! (more pix to come)
In addition to birds, photography of insects has greatly enhanced my NEDs (nature exploration days)!! Was pleased to find 6 examples of my favorite beetle yesterday!
