Mr Botteri
Eric and I made a little side trip to the Rio Grande Valley to get the most common bird neither of us had on our life lists for Texas. Anyone want to ID Mr Scruffy here?

Other stuff seen on south Texas trip.
Spent monday and tuesday on a quick trip hoping for Gray Gull in the Rio Grande Valley. Didn’t find that gull, but always wanted to visit the famous City of Brownsville Dump !!!! Quite a sight!!!
Bat Falcon — That’s him on top of the telephone pole just left of the water tower. Got him after about 15 micro-seconds of very dedicated and difficult searching. We saw the Social Flycatcher too, but all my pix (from the scrum) were of Kiss-Katies.
Oh and 3 different Peregrines is worth mentioning. The 2 flying birds were spotted by a 9 year old boy who shouted out “There’s a Peregrine, There’s a Peregrine”!!!. Good stuff!!
And saw a couple of Collared Peccary and a Land Shark!!!
Choke Canyon & the Notorious RGV Scorecard: Choke stakeout, 3 hours — +1 to Texas list (Spotted Rail) Bird Lake Falcon: nice gulls McAllan Nature Center stakeout, 2.5 hours — +1 to life list (Hermit Warbler) (unless we saw in Guatemala, can’t remember). Estero Llano, 45 minute stakeout — +1 to Texas List (Elegant Trogon)….
