I birded a bit on Post Oak, Alum Creek Road and vicinity this morning (Webberville park closed). Had a few migrants and first of seasons including 10 upland sandpipers (some singing), 4 YH Blackbirds, Franklin’s gulls, painted bunting, yellow throated, white-eye, red-eye vireos, northern parulas, pine warblers, and swainson’s hawk. Since I’m going to attempt to teach a few gulls next class here’s a reminder: it’s about time to be on the lookout (and listen-out) for franklin’s gulls. They migrate from prairie nesting sites To west coast of South America. Right over cen Tex. Also listen for another iconic sound of fall migration—Sandhill cranes!!
