I had a great time at Granger Lake yesterday, sitting solo by the swim area watching migration go by!! No gulls at the swim area, but good numbers flying by and at 2 poorly accessible roosts.
While we’re on the subject of spizellas: Here’s a few Brewer’s Sparrow pix from trans Pecos. The last pix is the Will Co Brewer’s from Sparrowfest. It’s a still from a digi-scoped video of him. Tried to get a bit of his nape.
Attwater NWR As usual, I started my High Island adventure for 2025 with a visit to Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR. Also per usual, no Prairie Chickens!! Other than not finding Baird’s (yet) I am finding good sparrows. Here’s a few pix from Marfa vicinity for ya’ll to ID. I’ve had 13 species so far.
Completed my 15th Sparrowfest yesterday, which was the 20th overall for the event. Sparrow numbers remain low in CenTex, but we still managed about 16 species for the group including Lark Bunting and Brewer’s Sparrow.
