We visited S. Llano River SP on beautiful yesterday!! Bird highlights were Vermillion Fly, Great crested fly, PABU, five species of Vireo (BC, WE, RE, YT and Bell’s) (all but BC are also at the Dacha today), Clay-colored, Lark, Chipping, Field, Grasshopper Sparrows, Eastern Wood Pewee. Forgot to post this one: I’ve tried to see the planet Mercury off and on for about the last 50 years. Being the closest planet to the sun, it is usually in sun or city glare. In March out in the clear skies of the Davis Mountains I finally succeeded!!! Here’s a greatly zoomed in…
Here’s a couple of pix I thought a little unusual. 2 male Vermillions on territory but amicably sitting close together — Maybe family? And 11 Blue Grosbeaks in a flock (not all pictured) – maybe migrating? I’ve never seen more than 2 together that I recall.
