Here’s one I don’t recall seeing so boldly out in the open before, much less photographed in gorgeous sunlight!!
Here’s another odd coloration on a Least Sandpiper from Hornsby yesterday. I had a similar one last year. The least in the back is more normal colored. The front one looked almost red in person.
Here’s a reminder for you photographers: I was at Cedar point on Lake Buchanan yesterday. I caught two distant pix of a flock of shorebirds heading south. (Love witnessing migration !!!!) Couldn’t tell much with bins, but since I had a pix I blew it up and can easily see needle like bills, distinctive profile…
Stopped at Sandia Wetlands near Balmorhea for another shorebird fix. 6 species of shorebirds. Phalaropes are just so photogenic!!
When identifying a Semipalmated Plover, the latter word can rhyme with lover or rover. Both are technically correct. Eric and I are both right!!! What else is news!! Article at Audubon Magazine Article at Audubon Magazine
We recently read a very good book called “Orison for a Curlew”(Orison = prayer). It’s about the Slender-billed Curlew of Europe. Some of the narrative took us to places we had birded in Bulgaria.
