Gull #3 for Gulls class. (Same day, location)
Gull #3 is an Adult Herring. We can see that this is an adult gull. Pretty distant shot, but if you zoom in we don’t see any ring as in ring bill, but more telling the transition from gray underwing to black underwing tip is more gray-to-black than white-to-black.
I couldn’t sit still with so many rare birds present in Texas — especially when one was a first state record Gull !!!! So I opted for Amarillo (rather than RGV at the moment). I put in 8 hours of stakeout time for the Yellow-footed Gull in Amarillo yesterday and today and it paid off…

Went hunting for shorebirds at Lake Buchanan this morning. Looks like lots of shorebird habitat all around the lake, but I only found 1 Killdeer, 1 Solitary Sandpiper, 1 Spotted Sandpiper, 2 flyover Upland Sandpipers and 7 Avocets. Here’s hoping more stop in next time.
Gull #4 for yesterday Cedar Point. Can someone from 2024 class ID these gulls? Gull #4 Adult Herring. Pink feet, pulled taffy snout.
And finally, here’s another cool gull from Corpus. It took me 7 tries over the past 3 years to finally get this gull. He’s been returning to a bait shop there for at least that long. Also compared to Herring in 1 pix.
