Hawk Watch Corpus Christi
With good reports the night before, I ran down to the Corpus hawkwatch yesterday. It was a good morning, not epic, but good.!! Broadwinged hawks were lifting off when I got there and I enjoyed nice low altitude views for 30-40 minutes. Kettles streamed over periodically while I was there from 8:30 to 11;30. I saw more woodstorks than I’ve ever seen before: 200-300. Several white pelican flights and Anhinga flights went by. Love the formation flying of Anhingas!!. There was a smattering of Mississippi kites and Cooper’s hawks. Hawkwatch is a hit or miss thing: Eric and I have led groups there when it’s pretty quiet and other times we’ve watched 30,000-40,000 raptors go over. They counted over 8,000 “broadies” while I was there.
