Davis Mountains & Mountain Plover
I spent the last week in Davis Mountains. Here’s a few locals.
Having heard of 88 mountain plovers near San Angelo, I detoured that direction on the way home and found about a dozen on a cold and rainy morning. Nice turf farm there on Susan Peak road. See map below if you want to chase. Longer drive but much easier to see than Granger Lake tilled fields (S&S turf farm).
That peaks my shorebird total for the year at 38, only missing Red-naked Phalarope and Hudsonian Godwit (which I got in 2023) of the 40 likely shorebirds for Texas. Fun game!!! It starts anew in January with Gull field trip.
