Ring-Billed 1st Winter
Gull #5 (same date location). Species? Age? Gull #5 First cycle Ring-billed with pretty advanced feathers on the back – lot of adult gray coming in. Also note shape is perfect for ring bill.
Ring-billed Adult
Gull #6 (same date location). I’m tossing in an easy Gull #6 Adult Ring bill in basic plumage – note streaks on neck.
Herring Adult
Gull #3 for Gulls class. (Same day, location) Gull #3 is an Adult Herring. We can see that this is an adult gull. Pretty distant shot, but if you zoom in we don’t see any ring as in ring bill, but more telling the transition from gray underwing to black underwing tip is more gray-to-black…
Lake Buchanan Cedar Point
Spent 3.5 hours at Cedar Point on Lake Buchanan this morning. 40 species total including 5 Tri-colored herons and a Bushtit. 10 species of shorebirds including 3 new ones for the fall shorebird season: Marbled Godwit, Black-bellied Plover and Greater Yellowlegs. Gull #2 from Cedar Point today (for the gulls class of 2024) Pretty straight forward 1st cycle Herring gull. Notice the inner primary “window” with some light shining through.
