We visited S. Llano River SP on beautiful yesterday!! Bird highlights were Vermillion Fly, Great crested fly, PABU, five species of Vireo (BC, WE, RE, YT and Bell’s) (all but BC are also at the Dacha today), Clay-colored, Lark, Chipping, Field, Grasshopper Sparrows, Eastern Wood Pewee. Been hunting for Baird’s Sparrow south of Marfa. Had 8 bogies, but can’t get them to sit up. Here’s the best “view” of a possible I’ve had. The quest continues!!! (Note: there’s no bird in the photo).
Just back from a few days at Fort Davis. Stopped in at Sandia Wetlands (a nice stop just off I10) and Lake Balmorhea and had 9 species of shorebird. Killdeer, BN Stilt, Avocet, Wilson’s Phal, Spotted Sand, Western Sand (flyby), Upland Sand (several flyovers), Greater yellowlegs and my fav: fly right over the head 12…
