Night of September 21 looks like a doosie!!! I think I’ll go birding the morning of the 22nd.
Another question for 2022 gulls class: with these long narrow wings with black wingtips I thought I had what species? But what species is it actually?
Been uppies and dickcissels going over regularly in small numbers this morning at “The Dacha “. Also been hearing the snap of warbler bills in small groups. The ones I got on were yellow warblers. Migration !!! Had a few hundred of these guys near La Grange yesterday. Then I stopped by Hornsby about noon and it was almost devoid of shorebird habitat. Water is up and meets the grass, so no “shore”. I did manage to find 3 of the the “big 4”: Least, Killdeer & Spotted.
I had a great time at Granger Lake yesterday, sitting solo by the swim area watching migration go by!! No gulls at the swim area, but good numbers flying by and at 2 poorly accessible roosts.
