I had a great time at Granger Lake yesterday, sitting solo by the swim area watching migration go by!! No gulls at the swim area, but good numbers flying by and at 2 poorly accessible roosts.

Can ya’ll ID these 3 Texas winter shorebirds: 1/5/25, Galveston East Beach. Started the shorebird scoresheet for 2025 with 12 species.

On Saturday Eric texted me about Franklin’s gulls at Hornsby and I was sorry to miss. But on Sunday driving back from Dallas I hit the mother-lode!!!! I watched for at least 45 minutes and guestimated 3000-4000 gulls went by!! What a blast!!! And you’ll never guess the wonderful nature setting where I witnessed this………………………………….
Saw some rain coming yesterday so headed to Hornsby for another shorebird and migrant fix!! Lots of White-rumped Sand, a flyby of 3 Black-bellied Plovers, Semipalm plovers, beautiful breeding plumage phalaropes, Dowitchers, and Stilt sands and the first time to ever see all 5 peeps on the same day!!
