Hornsby Shorebird Habitat
Made a short visit to Hornsby this morning to check conditions for Shorebird class.
It doesn’t seem that the hard rain of Monday hit Hornsby. Drying beds are dry (and full of brush).
But pond 1W had ample shorebird habitat, in the form of floating mats — as much as I’ve ever seen. There were good numbers of shorebirds present. 9 species in a casual, quick trip.
Good news is the roads are open around ponds 1W and 2 just like before the construction.
Bad news was very few birds were located down-light in the NE corner of 2W. Evening viewing should be better lighting conditions.
