Buff-breasted Sandpiper
The Buff-breasted Sandpiper (or “Buffy:) is a beautiful tan, black and white shorebird usually found in short grass. Its migration path takes it through Central Texas as well as the Texas Coast in spring and fall. With its dove-like head and bill, scalloped feathers of the upper parts and its unique tan and black colors, it is a beautiful, dainty and distinctive species. It can occasionally be seen on the mudflats at Hornsby Bend during migration.
