Long-billed Curlew
The Long-billed Curlew is seen year round on the Texas Coast and is infrequently seen in migration in Central Texas. Its long decurved bill and sunset orange/brown color make it almost unmistakable. If further differentiation from Whimbrel is needed, note that the Whimbrel has a darkish eye-stripe, a pale supercilium and a crown split by a pale central-crown stripe — in other words the Whimbrel has a stripey head. The Long-billed Curlew has s streaky head and face, with no obvious stripes. (Whimbrel photos can be found here).
