Here’s 2 habits I’d like ya’ll to start working on (if you don’t already do).
Up in oregon now. I’ve heard Dusky, Cordilliran and pacific slope flycatchers by sound and location. Pix have been tough!! Golden eagle fly by yesterday. I love waking and going to sleep to the songs of Hermit and Swainson’s Thrushes. Glad we got up to the pacific NW to escape the heat
Here’s a reminder of 3 field marks for Downy v Hairy Woodpecker. 1 Small black bars on outer tail feathers (Downy). All white for Hairy. 2) Bill shorter than the width of the head (Downy). Hairy is much larger bill, comparable to width of head. 3) Red on back of head on male Downy uninterrupted…

Here’s a comparison of Semipalmated with a Least. So I think we can see actual black legs here on this sandpiper. It’s a short-winged bird; wings are just atop tail. Bill is short and pretty straight. Overall coloration is fairly pale, not brown. Baird’s and Least are brown-hued birds. Both also have a chest coloration…
