Red-necked Phalarope (basic)
The Red-necked Phalarope, the smallest of the phalaropes, is an irregular visitor to Texas including central Texas where it occurs sporadically in fall and winter, but more commonly in the fall. It can occur at inland water sources as well as at the coast. It usually has a small black mask and irregular stripes on the back in basic plumage. One photo below taken in Alaska shows the phalarope in alternate plumage.
