Upland Sandpiper
The Upland Sandpiper is more frequently heard overhead than seen. Its distinctive 3-note call is diagnostic during spring and especially fall migration. Uppies prefer grassy fields as migration stopovers in Texas. They are also famous for perching on fenceposts. With its tiny head, long slender neck and vase-shaped body, the distinctive outline of the Upland Sandpiper can be recognized from long distances.
