Another great trip to High Island with Eric and others!!! Witnessing a fallout happen was amazing!!!
Allan and I headed out to Granger area yesterday on our semi-regular NED (Nature Exploration Day). We came across some nice shorebird habitats in wet fields and had 6 shorebird species for the morning. So shorebird season is ON!!! Here’s a few easy-peasy to ID. Distribution !!!! 3 of the 7 Habits !!! Here’s birds (I think) on radar from this morning. They appear to be landing for the morning. Also attached is Birdcast prognostication for tonight. And finally, here’s a new way to explore distribution and migration. IT is fascinating!!! Distribution Map at Audubon
Migration !!! Had a few hundred of these guys near La Grange yesterday. Then I stopped by Hornsby about noon and it was almost devoid of shorebird habitat. Water is up and meets the grass, so no “shore”. I did manage to find 3 of the the “big 4”: Least, Killdeer & Spotted.
Fall migration is in the air! Dickcissels and at least 4 upland sandpipers going over on this morning’s walk.
