Shorebird Class Field Trip to Corpus 2022
What a great trip to the coast with the 2022 TAS Shorebird Class!!!
Highlights for me were the Aplomado falcons and Elegant Tern (life bird!!), as well as the good company of bird nerds !!

On RGV trip on Monday I found this interesting gull at the Port Aransas jetty. I called it a Great Black Backed Gull in the field based on thick pink legs, big bill, large size (a good bit larger than Herrings present), white head, thick neck and patterned coverts. Posting pix to gull FB pages,…
Really enjoyed this beautiful and cooperative gull !! I’ve decided Glaucous and Iceland are my favorites, until I see an Ivory or Ross’s at least!!
I had a great time at Granger Lake yesterday, sitting solo by the swim area watching migration go by!! No gulls at the swim area, but good numbers flying by and at 2 poorly accessible roosts.
There’s a nice discussion of Pacific vs American Golden Plover on the “Advanced Bird ID” FB page. You’ll have to join that group to see the rest of post.
I had a great time on the 29th communing with a visiting celebrity in Corpus Christi!! If you haven’t heard, this is a Kelp Gull born about 1 year ago in the southern hemisphere (South America most likely). Very impressive bill (compared to Herring in pic).
Still from Granger yesterday. Here’s a few shorebirds for any graduate of the Shorebird Class to ID. Look at the flying flock carefully.
