Once again just as i dreamed!! Was able to get this Baird’s sparrow with perfect background in Davis mountains today!! (Note: early April Fools dad joke!)
Just back from a few days at Fort Davis. Stopped in at Sandia Wetlands (a nice stop just off I10) and Lake Balmorhea and had 9 species of shorebird. Killdeer, BN Stilt, Avocet, Wilson’s Phal, Spotted Sand, Western Sand (flyby), Upland Sand (several flyovers), Greater yellowlegs and my fav: fly right over the head 12…
I was delighted to add this heard only bird to the yard list at our Davis Mountains Resort (DMR) place. Also heard them most of the morning at LE Woods picnic area and saw one briefly. (This iPhone video is from a later sighting in the DMR). Current name is Montezuma Quail, but I learned…
