Two Suggested Birding Habits
Here’s 2 habits I’d like ya’ll to start working on (if you don’t already do).
- when you see a bird that has a more rare or different range congener, keep looking at the bird while you describe in your head why it is not that more rare or different range bird. E.g. if you see a great crested flycatcher — study the bird and describe in you head why it is not a brown crested or ash throated flycatcher. would work with many of the birds we will be discussing later in class e.g. east and west bluebirds.
- start counting wing beats of any flying birds that you can. Notice which birds flap slowly enough that you actually can count them, and which ones you just have to get the GIZZ of slow, medium, fast….
